About Ratchford Farms

In 1952, Otis and Madge Ratchford purchased this farm to raise crops the old fashioned way; with a mule team. They raised cattle, hogs, tomatoes, and strawberries. Upon Otis' death in 1986, the farm was left without a main operator. In 1984, the son of Otis and Madge graduated from high school and pursued a welding degree. L.C., now the main operator of Ratchford Farms, spent the next 20 years as a contract welder. Thankfully, his welding experience has aided him in the farms' new endeavors, which include bison, beef and pork farming, as well as, a strong strawberry and blueberry crop.

In 2009, Ratchford Farms was voted Farm Family of the year in Searcy County. This is a tremendous honor as there is only one farm chosen annually. The Arkansas Farm Family program was begun in 1947 and was built around developing farm and agriculture in the state and also holds the title of the longest running farm family recognition program in the country! The emphasis of the the program is to honor and recognize county farm families and the their growing importance to the community that they serve.
